Heroes Series

I began this series of portraits as a tribute to personal heroes that have influenced my creative path. They are individuals that celebrate their authenticity and have a unique vision they tirelessly pursue.

  • Noel Fielding

    Artist, comedian, actor, bon vivant

Noel is brilliant. He’s funny, vibrant and cool. Just about ticks all my boxes, is there much else to say?!

He’s a living work of art, he’s alternative, leftfield, pretty abstract… anyone that’s a fan of The Mighty Boosh will testify.

“Goth juice is the most powerful hairspray know to man. Made from the tears of Robert Smith”.Any former goths will concur…

  • Missy Oka aka @saltwaterheals

I have been following Missy for almost 3 years. She’s a tarot reader and spiritual guide, most importantly she’s a badass. Missy carved out her own niche, she’s acerbic, larger than life, hilarious, and a beautiful person.

I love her style, her word, her energy. She has taken me through life’s challenges like surfing a wave of highs and lows with her daily wisdom.

  • Grayson Perry

In the late 90s I went on a college gallery trip to London. It was my first encounter with Grayson’s ceramics. His vases depicting modern social scenes in traditional styles piqued my imagination. Before I had seen Grayson in person I knew his work was original, political, poetic and ironic.

His unique style, combined drawing, painting, and textiles collaged together in a vibrant cataclysm to depict his social commentary.

He is interested in the notion of taste and how it’s expressed in British culture. Among his own books ‘The Ascent of Man’ calls upon us to question modern masculinity from a fresh perspective, that’s inclusive and progressive.

When I first saw Grayson being interviewed in full costume, I admired his authenticity and fun. His loud but proud outfits can do nothing but draw attention to his creative genius.

  • Vivienne Westwood

Vivienne walks to the beat of her own drum, she perpetually reinvents herself and her vision. She has unwavering faith in her talent and perspective. It took decades for her contribution to British fashion to be truly appreciated. She was initially ridiculed for stepping outside of the mainstream, which eventually paid dividends.

During an interview with Selena Scott, the audience openly laughed at her models, Vivienne wasn’t phased and was actually confused. She knew what she was doing!!

A message to all creatives to believe in themselves.

  • Gok Wan

    MBE | Stylist | Presenter | DJ | Author | Artist | Cook

Got has single handedly saved my sanity during lockdown with his bi weekly live DJ sets. His huge heart and passion for music, and love of sharing and caring, spills out and rightly so attracts an amazing crew of people who I lurrrvee having a kitchen boogie with.

I’ve followed Gok for many years and he’s hugely inspiring to me, because he walks his talk and is 100% authentic. He’s flamboyant and full of life. He shares his struggles, the good days and bad and it makes me feel human. He’s such a talented guy, cooking beautiful food, designing clothes and artwork. He just can’t help but be creative and I’m all about that!

If anything this past year has taught me, it’s that connection, love and community matters most. Being with your tribe of like minded people is so important. Those that just get it! and Gok I praise you for that.

  • Princess Diana

Diana wasn’t afraid to stand up for what she believed in. Her integrity and timeless elegance was effusive, and people naturally were attracted to her for it.

She used her position to good effect, supporting sometimes controversial charities, such as her work with HIV sufferers and victims of landmines.

Her natural empathy surpassed her role as a royal, her kindness and understanding will be her everlasting legacy.
